Fairmount Technologies (FT) is a growing advanced manufacturing company developing tooling-free CNC systems that dramatically reduce cost and lead time for aerospace and defense manufacturers. Our machines are already in production, running on real factory floors, and demand is accelerating.
🚀 Recent milestone: FT was selected for a U.S. Department of Defense APFIT award, supporting deployment of our systems across multiple Air Force maintenance depots. This marks a major step as we scale production and expand our engineering team.
We’re looking for an Operations Manager to join our small, highly technical team and help design, integrate, and bring to life next-generation machine systems.
Experience Needed:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience (typically 5–10+ years) in manufacturing or production operations — specifically with planning and setting up production lines or work-cells.
Demonstrated track record managing financial aspects of operations: budgeting, cost control, cash flow, and profitability.
Strong project management skills: ability to lead cross-functional projects, meet deadlines, manage resources, and handle changes proactively.
Excellent analytical skills and comfort working with financial data, KPIs, and performance metrics.
Leadership and team-management skills; ability to motivate, coach, and develop a production team.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to present operational and financial status to senior leadership.
Hands-on, results-driven mindset; able to balance strategic planning with day-to-day operational realities.
Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, 5S) is a plus.
Experience in Machine tool industry, but additional in Aerospace industry is helpful/preferred
This person will:
Plan, design, and implement new production lines or work-cells: layout planning, resource allocation, staffing, equipment procurement, and scheduling.
Develop detailed project plans for line/cell setups: timelines, milestones, deliverables, risk management, and inter-department coordination (engineering, maintenance, quality, safety, logistics).
Oversee day-to-day operation of production lines: manage production leads and production staff; ensure operations meet quality, throughput, and safety targets.
Establish and monitor performance KPIs for production: throughput, yield, downtime, labor utilization, scrap/waste rates, cycle times, etc.
Prepare, manage, and monitor budgets related to production line builds and ongoing operations: capital investments, operating expenses, labor costs, maintenance, overhead, etc.
Manage cash flow for projects and operations: track expenditures vs. budget, forecast cash needs, report variances, and work with leadership on financial planning.
Provide regular financial and operational reports to senior management: profitability analysis, ROI on new production cells, cost savings, and continuous improvement recommendations.
Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency: identify bottlenecks, implement process improvements (e.g., Lean, 5S, standard work), and support cost reduction initiatives.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements, and promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Mentor, train, and develop production staff; build and maintain a strong operations team aligned with company goals.
