The ExtruMach technology, embodied in our XtruMach (XM) machines, is capable of completing 5-axis parts by milling processes including drilling, trimming and thinning of curved or straight parts to final geometry without needing part-specific fixtures.

 

XM utilizes a feeding fixture to support the part rigidly near the machining region, and simultaneously feeds it through the machine, enabling it to produce parts much longer than the machine. The process uses machine kinematics controlled by CNC programs to mill the stock to the required geometry.

 

As the figure shows, the CNC controlled Universal Feeding Fixture (UFF), controls the positions and orientation of the part in conjunction with spindle side CNC controls, allowing a rigid and reliable roller-based feeding, tracking, and positioning system. Simultaneous CNC control of the machine and UFF allows machining complex 5-axis parts in one setup.
